First Lady of Chihuahua visits KUMC
On Friday, October 12th, 2012, First Lady of Chihuahua, Bertita Gómez de Duarte, and the Director of Seguro Popular of Chihuahua, Pedro Hernández Flores, visited The University of Kansas Medical Center to meet with Dr. Edward Ellerbeck, Chair of the KUMC Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Paula Cupertino, Juntos Director, Ramon Murguia, attorney at law, Leo Prieto, Advisor for the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, and representatives from the Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City.
The meeting explored new opportunities for enhancing the Ventanilla de Salud in Southwest Kansas and creating new collaborations in the health education field between the state of Chihuahua and Juntos Center for Advancing Latino Health.
Four Ventanillas across the U.S. (Fresno, California; Washing D.C.; Portland, Washington; and New York, New York) and the Ventanilla de Salud in Kansas, lead by the Juntos Center for Advancing Latino Health, were designated by Mexico as the Five Ventanillas Second Generation in the U.S. The Ventanilla de Salud in Southwest Kansas has been selected to work closely with the state of Chihuahua due to the large Mexican population from Chihuahua living in the state of Kansas.
