First Ventanilla de Salud Móvil
This past Saturday March 24th, 2012 we had our First Ventanilla de Salud Móvil (Mobile Health Window) for the 2012 calendar year in Southwest Kansas. The event was held in Dodge City, KS, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
The health fair included five education stations (cancer prevention, smoking cessation, healthy lifestyles, skin damage and dental hygiene), and five screening stations (BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose, HIV/AIDS, and glaucoma). More than sixty people participated in the screenings and received information from the education tables. We identified two severe cases of glaucoma, and several cases of diabetes. These participants will be referred to local specialized clinics for follow-up. We are very thankful for all the volunteers from El Centro, Inc, Juntos Center of Advancing Latino Health, UMMAM Health Clinics, and members of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, which provided us with wonderful guidance and made this event possible!
Our next Ventanilla de Salud Móvil will take place on Saturday, April 28th at the Smoky Hill Education Service Center in Salina, Kansas. To volunteer, provide health education or health screenings, please contact Ramón Concepción at email@example.com or (913) 945-7873. We are always in need of volunteers to continue educating and screening the Latino families in the state of Kansas. Cheers for a successful first Ventanilla de Salud Móvil!
