Third Session of the Cancer Research Studies Training in Southwest Kansas
Promotores de Salud of Southwest Kansas took part in training sessions entitled Participating in Cancer Research Studies that were conducted in Spanish on Monday, June 4 and Friday, June 22, 2012 at UMMAM Care Center in Liberal, Kansas. Training facilitators were Dr. Paula Cupertino, Juntos Director, and Mercedes Saint-Elin.
These sessions were part of the Cancer Research Studies training for Promotores de Salud, a community based education program created for Latino immigrants. The program content was developed as part of the pilot research project entitled Latino and American Indian Community Health Workers Promoting Cancer Research Studies of the Kansas Community Cancer Health Disparities Network funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Promotores watched two videos Bienvenidos a Cancer.gov with Dr. Harold Varmus, director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Llame al 1-800-4-CANCER. Moreover, Promotores called 1-800-4-CANCER and spoke with NCI information specialists who answered their cancer-related questions. (Picture: Arturo Ponce)
