Whittier Elementary Afterschool Program Health Fair
As Juntos is committed to advancing Latino health in urban areas this time we collaborated with the Local Investment Commission in Kansas City. On Thursday October 18th, a small health fair was organized at Whittier Elementary School to provide health resources and information to the families enrolled in the afterschool program.
The health fair included five information stations (breast cancer prevention, smoking cessation, vaccines, Consulate of Mexico programs and resources from the Public Library). Additionally, we had post-baccalaureate students screening for glucose levels and blood pressure. More than 50 people participated in the screenings and received the educational information.
Special thanks to the Consulate of Mexico of Kansas City for their continued support and all the post-baccalaureate students and interns that took their time to volunteer and create a healthy Latino community!
