Celebrating Healthy Families 2013
On Saturday, October 12th, Juntos joined the Celebrating Healthy Families Committee for their 8th Annual Health fair at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. From 9AM – 2PM, crowds of underserved/uninsured Latino families poured in from around the community to improve the health of their household.
Juntos registered and distributed a total of 255 flu shots, saving potentially many pocketbooks from having to buy extra Nyquil this winter. We also had doctors available one-on-one, answering questions and providing explanations at our Ask-A-Doctor area.
The health fair had many different organizations providing a number of different screenings including: blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, vision, dental, and HIV/AIDS. In addtion, there were numerous organizations providing educational information on breast cancer, fire safety, heatlhy foods, and depression. Relevant healthy living tips were discussed with families who wanted to continue to improve their wellness.
We are confident to say that hundreds of people in the community took a step closer to living a longer, healthier life!
Our next event will be on November 17th at the Great Mall of The Great Plains in Olathe, KS (20700 W. 151st St. Olathe, KS 66061). For more information please refer to our website: http://juntosks.org/calendar-2/
