Recent breast cancer training, the upcoming AMIGA program, and ACS visit
The A.M.I.G.A. program stands for Ayudándonos entre Mujeres con Información, Generosidad y Apoyo (Women helping each other with information, Generosity and Support) and is supported by the American Cancer Society and the National Football League. The primary objective of the AMIGA program is to improve mammography screening in the Wyandotte County area by educating Hispanic women on breast cancer and providing them with resources for low to no-cost mammograms. The promotores involved in the AMIGA program are Gloria Cortes, Zabdi Arteta, Sara Hernández, Lucia Martinez, Catalina Reyes, and Lilia Castillo. They will be visiting clinics to talk with women as they wait for their appointments as well as conduct meetings throughout the community about breast cancer.
Even though the weather was very cold and icy, all the AMIGAS were able to attend the breast cancer training session conducted by Mariana Martinez with help from Fabiola Hernández and Abril Negrette on December 21st. The goal of the training was to educate the AMIGAS on breast cancer to prepare them for upcoming events. The training primarily dealt with detection, types, treatments, and risk factors of breast cancer.
Looking forward, we are excited about our guest Deborah Leonardis from the American Cancer Society who will be visiting with the AMIGAs on January 16th to talk about the upcoming AMIGA program. This entry was posted in Promotores. Bookmark the permalink.
