Dr. Ana Paula Cupertino – Honorary Visitor Professor of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo ( UAEH )
“Mexicans’ health and wellbeing outside the borders is also a responsibility of Mexico” This was Dr. Cupertino’s opening statement when she was invested as an Honorary Visitor Professor of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo ( UAEH ) as part of the 2014 International Seminar Series.
Dr. Cupertino considered an honor to be part of the highest educational institution in the State of Hidalgo. She stated “I humbly accept the opportunity to work in the international mission, strategy and vision of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo”.
She offered her full support and commitment to work with in the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo supporting the development of a binational research and education exchange program. A US-Mexico partnership has an immediate impact on the health of thousand immigrants residing in USA and states as Kansas. This is the reason why Dr. Cupertino dedicated the recognition to Mexican immigrants living and working in the US, who have limited access to health care services.
IN her remarks she stressed the importance of activities that integrates the vision of internationalization students from University Kansas Medical Center and Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo.
The award ceremony was held in the auditorium Nicolás Ruiz Licona at the Institute of Health Sciences (ICSA) . Dr Humberto Veras Godoy, Chancellor of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo personally presented the Honorarium Professor Recognition.
Dr. Veras Godoy mentioned that the University aims to be internationally visible to strengthen knowledge of the academic areas , particularly health.
As a new honorary visitor professor of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo; Dr. Cupertino will be adjunct to the ICSA – Institute of Health Sciences.
Dr. Cupertino was recognized along with 5 other US Honorarium Professors including, Dr. Debora Stipek – Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Education and Professor of Education; Dr. Robert Kinscherff – Forensic and clinical psychologist and an attorney of the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology; Professor Tracy K. Smith – Princeton University and Professor Jody Williams – Vermont University.
Since Dr. Cupertino became an Honorarium professor, she has facilitated the development of a binational research program on reproductive health among teenagers. She has also guided the international clinical rotation for a KUMC medical student and Children Mercy Hospital resident.
The ceremony counted with the attendance of the Director of the ICSA – Jose Ma . Bustos Villareal , International Development Secretary Roberto Rodriguez Garonne; Dean of Nursing and Academics – Pilar Vargas Escamilla and from the University Medical Center – Dr. Edward Ellerberk, Sosland and Chair of the Preventive and Public Health Department and Dr. Jacqueline Issa – cardiologist from Brazil
