The Ventanillas de Salud cooperative with Juntos, aims to provide Latinos all over the state of Kansas with friendly, comprehensive, bilingual health care access; traveling to more remote, Western Kansas towns with higher populations of Latinos. Liberal and Dodge City for example, have Latino populations of over 50%. Among these health services are blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, application of fluoride to children’s teeth, providing smoking cessation information, and conducting free school physicals.
This past Saturday March 2nd and Sunday March 3rd, we had our First Ventanilla de Salud Móvil (Mobile Health Window) for the 2013 calendar year in Southwest Kansas. The event was held at the Hoover Pavilion in Dodge City, KS.
As Juntos is committed to advancing Latino health in urban areas this time we collaborated with the Local Investment Commission in Kansas City. On Thursday October 18th, a small health fair was organized at Whittier Elementary School to provide health resources and information to the families enrolled in the afterschool program.
We had a successful second Ventanilla de Salud Móvil (Mobile Health Window) this past Saturday April 28thin Salina, KS. The event was held at the Smoky Hills Education Service Center.
