Rudy Karina Lara, Associate in Science, is originally from Cortez, Honduras and arrived to the United States in 2006. Rudy acquired her degree in 2013 from Seward County Community College in Liberal, KS. She has collaborated with the University of Kansas Medical Center since 2010 helping with a variety of tasks. She has helped with the Latino population in southwest Kansas by conducting surveys, promoting health services, and education about diabetes, blood pressure, breast cancer, skin cancer, and body mass index. Rudy now works for Juntos, Center for Advancing Latino Health as a community health worker to assist in the recruitment and enrollment of Latino smokers in southwest Kansas into the smoking cessation clinical trial, Decidetext. Rudy’s passion is to become a nurse to help her community. She wants to give something back to the community and she knows this is what makes her happy.
